What does your session fee pay for?
I like to keep prices are simple with no hidden costs. All session prices are explained plain and simple on my website, along with detailed information about what each session involves..
This is in no way a naming and shaming post but it's for those people who frown or laugh at the price of a photographer. It's for the people who think 'why does it cost so much, you're only clicking a button on a camera', if that's you're opinion, fair enough, click away and see if your results match a professionals. On the other hand, you could have a quick read of this blog post and start to appreciate the art, hard work and dedication put into a photography business!
Time costs money, as photographers we take up a large amount of time promoting our businesses online, handing out business cards to companies, uploading and editing sessions, updating websites and social media accounts, invoices, email enquiries, and much more. On the physical side of things we have to cover:
- Online promotion fee's
- Website hosting per year
- Website domain per year
- Camera body
- Camera cleaning
- Camera lens'
- Memory cards
- Travel expenses
- Props and accessories
At the end of the day, just like all other businesses, we have a lot to cover and just because our process appears simple (clicking a button apparently) it's much more than it seems. Like every knows, you get what you pay for.
I hope this post didn't come across too negative for a Friday afternoon! Happy weekend everyone.
